Antonio Romano is Researcher at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Turin and scientific director of the Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics "Arturo Genre".

After a graduation in 1994 at the Politecnico di Torino and a "Diplôme d'Études Approfondies" (D.E.A.) at the Université Stendhal in Grenoble (France), he attended a European PhD in Language Science in Grenoble. His doctoral dissertation (discussed in 1999) was judged "très honorable avec félicitations du Jury".

ONGOING RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Co-ordinator of AMPER Atlas Multimédia Prosodique de l'Espace Roman (with M. Contini) and director of the Italian commitee (AMPER-ITA).

Expert in phonetics at CELI and Loquendo - Vocal Technology and Services S.p.A., Turin.

Research projects on specific issues.

Participation in the founding of AISV (Associazione Italiana di Scienze della Voce - Italian Association of Voice Sciences).

Disseration: "Analisi della funzione di trasferimento del tratto vocale negli intervalli di chiusura della glottide ed estrazione dell'eccitazione glottidale".

D.E.A. Mémoire: "Développement d'un environnement de travail pour l'étude des structures sonores et intonatives de la parole".

PhD dissertation: "Analyse des structures prosodiques des dialectes et de l'italien régional parlés dans le Salento (Italie): approche linguistique et instrumentale".

Advisor for phonetic transcriptions of the toponyms of several points d'enquête of the Atlante Toponomastico del Piemonte Montano (ATPM 2005-2006: collaboration for the volumes 25-Pramollo and 27-Roccaforte Ligure; acoustic analysis and verification of the phonetic form for the volumes 28-Briga Alta, 29-Sambuco, 30-Exilles, 31-Rimella and 32-Alagna).

Winner of the prize "Apollo d'Argento" (2006) for his research in Linguistics, granted by the Cultural Association "Il laboratorio - Archivio Storico Parabitano".
