Antonio Romano is Researcher at the Faculty of Foreign Languages of the University of Turin and scientific director of the Laboratory of Experimental Phonetics "Arturo Genre".

After a graduation in 1994 at the Politecnico di Torino and a "Diplôme d'Études Approfondies" (D.E.A.) at the Université Stendhal in Grenoble (France), he attended a European PhD in Language Science in Grenoble. His doctoral dissertation (discussed in 1999) was judged "très honorable avec félicitations du Jury".

Advisor for phonetic transcriptions of the toponyms of several points d'enquête of the Atlante Toponomastico del Piemonte Montano (ATPM 2005-2006: collaboration for the volumes 25-Pramollo and 27-Roccaforte Ligure; acoustic analysis and verification of the phonetic form for the volumes 28-Briga Alta, 29-Sambuco, 30-Exilles, 31-Rimella and 32-Alagna).

Winner of the prize "Apollo d'Argento" (2006) for his research in Linguistics, granted by the Cultural Association "Il laboratorio - Archivio Storico Parabitano".
